Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. They work with both healthy and unwell people. Uniquely, dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease which they translate into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

Choosing the right person to seek help and advice from can sometimes be a confusing task. Many people claim to be experts in nutrition yet have very limited knowledge and offer no protection to the public. Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law and are therefore the most credible source of food and nutrition advice and work to the highest standard.

Why can’t I use an App?

These days there are many Apps available claiming to analyse your dietary intake. Whilst these provide a rough idea of your intake there are often many inaccuracies in these databases particularly when it comes to analysis of micronutrients (vitamins & minerals). It is also easy to make mistakes when inputting data into these Apps for example the dry weight and cooked weight of pasta are very different and can make a big difference in the final numbers you get. There is also no level of interpretation of these results and they can be misleading. A Dietitian is able to ensure accurate analysis and evidence based interpretation of these results leading to beneficial changes to your diet.
